What does it mean to Serve?
“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” – Malala Yousafzi, Nobel Prize Winner
Small changes can make a big difference.
A teacher is a person who helps others to acquire knowledge, competencies or values. To do so, one must be so fluid that they leave their ego at the door, and look to see what is best for the individual(s) they are helping. In medicine a physician, medical practitioner, medical doctor, or simply doctor is a professional who practices medicine, which is concerned with promoting, maintaining, or restoring health through the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, injury, and other physical and mental impairments.
The study of medicine incorporates many broad subjects that will help a student practice the art of medicine. “First, to do no harm” is a mantra that is familiar to doctors as The Hippocratic Oath; one of the first steps in that process of becoming a doctor is mastery of the material necessary. Teaching the values essential to benefit from these skills at a high level requires a genuine passion for educating and practicing. It takes a true devotion of oneself to learn and teach – we at MedSmarter are proud to have someone like this as an intuitive part of our team.
15 Years and counting…
Having served for 15 years and devoting oneself to promoting and maintaining health through the study and education of current and future physicians, Dr. Untara Shaikh earns acknowledgment. She received her MBBS from LUMHS in Jamshoro, Pakistan. After completing her board exams, and having her two beautiful children, she decided to follow her true passion. Dr. Shaikh made a pivot in her career from clinical medicine to academia. No amount of praise will do her service justice, and we look only to show our appreciation for her continued service. This year she was recognized with the 15 years of service award at the Annual MedSmarter Holiday Party. As the founding instructor who paved the way for those who followed her, Dr. Untara Shaikh plays an integral role in developing students. Not only is she the Program Director, but her role in the day-to-day teaching and student study planning also has not changed as the number of students grow. Dr. Shaikh can gauge whether a student is actively engaged in their learning process or needs some self-care time. As Dr. Prashant Karkal stated in his review “The instructors were very patient and encouraging throughout, making it an incredible learning experience.”
Maintain a Healthy Balance…
Dr. Untara knows how to maintain a healthy balance so that each student is receiving an efficient workload. Her aptitude for educating as well as genuine willingness to help makes her beloved among her peers and students alike. As more students continue to tell their stories of success, so does the growth of students and the need for more instructors to keep personalized class sizes. Dr. Untara Shaikh is an essential part of finding those that share her passions and provide them with an opportunity to grow into the best versions of themselves. What started as one doctor, teaching one student evolved into a full-fledged learning institute serving hundreds of student from all over the world on their path to a brighter future.
Congratulations to Dr. Untara for 15 years as a teacher, an inspiration, and a role model.
