How our private tutoring sessions work:

  • Schedule a consultation with an advisor:

During the initial conversation, an experienced USMLE Step 1 advisor will review your current status, strengths, and weaknesses.  They will then allocate the number of hours required based on your specific needs and go over availability.

  • Select the number of hours and purchase:

Now that you know the number of hours required, you can go ahead and purchase them.  The advisor will then proceed to schedule your personalized sessions based on the availability discussed during your initial consultation.

  • Join your sessions:

You’re all set, you will receive a confirmation email with the login information to attend your one on one sessions via  Zoom with the appropriate tutor(s) based on your specific needs.

Some commonly asked questions.

The Step 1 exam contains multiple-choice questions that assess your medical skills in the following basic science knowledge areas:

  • Anatomy
  • Behavioral sciences
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology
  • Pathology
  • Pharmacology
  • Physiology
  • Interdisciplinary topics, such as nutrition, genetics, and aging

This is a one-day, 8-hour examination. There are seven blocks. Each block is 1-hour long.

The number of questions per block on a given examination form may vary but will not exceed 40.  The total number of items on the overall examination form will not exceed 280.

Typically, most US med school students take this exam at the end of their second year.

International medical school graduates take USMLE Step 1 after becoming licensed doctors in their own countries to work toward being licensed to practice medicine in the United States.  These physicians must take the following steps to take the exam:

  • Register online with ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)
  • Receive an identification number from ECFMG
  • Book their exam online on a year-round basis

On February 12th, 2020, co-sponsors of the USMLE Program, the FSBM and NBME®, announced that the USMLE Step 1 exam will no longer be scored as a 3-digit numerical score. This change will be implemented no sooner than January 2022.

As of January 2021, the attempt limit for each USMLE Step component will reduce from six to four.

From March 2021, USMLE candidates will need to pass the Step 1 exam as an eligibility requirement in order to take the Step 2 CS exam.
