8 Tips for Reviewing and Studying to Pass the ACLS Exam

You must get ACLS certification to provide healthcare in the US. If you want to practice medicine, it’s imperative that you study hard, so you pass the ACLS exam.

The American Heart Association (ACH) requires certification to practice medicine in the US. Most healthcare workers must obtain certifications as well.

Some busy medical students find it hard to put aside tie to study for the advanced cardiovascular life support or advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) exam. So, here are eight effective tips to help you stay on track and get the certification you need to further your career in medicine.

1. Learn Algorithms

When studying for the ACLS, understand there are numerous algorithms and formulas you must know. Memorize them and know them inside out. That way, you’re ready for the clinical cases on the test.

2. Study in a Distraction-Free Environment

You need to put your head completely into learning the formulas and algorithms to pass the ACLS exam. So, it’s very important that where you study has no distractions.

Make sure you’re not around people or things (ringing cell phones, social media networks, etc…) that distract you. There should be no interruptions during your review time.

3. Study with a Buddy

As a medical student or graduate, you already know other future doctors studying for the ACLS exam. Get together with some of them and create an organized study group.

Group sessions help you learn more effectively by keeping you focused. Engaging in conversations, and discussions and quizzing each other really helps you all grasp the concepts needed to pass this US medical certification exam.

4. Practice with Others

Most medical students and graduates have various personal support systems. Ask some of your loved ones, schoolmates or friends to help you review for your test.

Teach them what you know in a manner that they can understand. This helps the concepts become embedded in your memory during your ACLS test prep.

5. Implement Mnemonic Devices

Mnemonic devices are the perfect way to memorize the ACLS algorithms. This effective learning technique involves creating an easy-to-remember phrase using the first letter of each step.

Using mnemonic devices to remember each algorithm helps you study more effectively. This memorization technique also comes in handy when you’re working in an emergency room or other medical crisis situation.

6. Use the Pomodoro Technique

What is the Pomodoro Technique? It’s a method that helps you manage your time while studying or completing a task. A timer is used to break down the tasks you must complete into intervals.
