Do “Easy to Get Into” Medical Schools Really Exist?
Quick Answer: Yes and No
Medical schools are famous for being expensive and too competitive.
The applicant needs to fulfill a strict criterion to enter the med school. This criterion asks for excellent academic records and a high MCAT exam score.
The admission process is quite lengthy and encompasses several CAP rounds and counseling sessions to reach the dream destination. Of course, some med schools are easier to get into than others.
But getting into any school of medicine all depends on you and the program itself.
Anyway, getting into the medical field doesn’t require an expensive degree from a famous university. All that matters is the quality of efforts you put in and the amount of knowledge you absorb there.
So, you’ve dreamt of becoming a doctor for as long as you can remember. But maybe you lack confidence or find yourself looking to get into the most comfortable medical schools.
But is this realistic? Do these types of med schools exist? And if so, will you get the quality training you need to become a good physician someday?
Some people worry about getting accepted that they even ponder the Caribbean or other overseas med schools. They’ll do anything to get in, even if that means sacrificing quality healthcare training. Is it worth it?

3 Things That Matter
1. Location Matters
Some state schools tend to reserve a certain number of spots for residents who want to attend their institutions. These schools provide good convenience for their local students.
Many universities might also offer scholarships to students with better educational background and overall performance. Schools give brownie points to people who want to become doctors and practice medicine in their home cities after graduation and completing residencies.
An Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report shows that during the 2018-2019 school year:
- 8% attended med schools in their own states
- 1% went to medical schools out of state
- 1% ended up going to med schools in other countries
Look into International Medical Schools
Many countries around the world provide lots of scholarships and fee concessions for international students. Apart from scholarships, few countries offer education at the lowest costs or free, like Germany, Sweden, Norway, and many more.
If you are up for this option, make sure to keep up well with your grades. Suppose you are a person with an excellent educational background in terms of performance. In that case, it will become easier for you to continue your med school journey.
There may be medical schools or colleges at a distance from residential localities or beyond the city outskirts. These might turn out to be not as popular, but enough to provide you the required education. Also, Med Schools in small towns may be easier to enter when considering grades and expenses.
2. Every Med School Has Its Own Entry Criteria
Each medical program judges its applicants differently. Some put a heavyweight on high GPAs and the highest MCAT scores. Others put more weight on extra-curricular activities and community involvement. Some schools are into academic diversity.
And when the law permits, there are others that factor in ethnicity and race. Nonetheless, very few qualify as “easy to get into” medical schools. They are all different.
Some schools are into academic diversity. And when the law permits, there are others that factor in ethnicity and race. The goal is to admit students with the ability and drive to complete the program.
Looking for an easy to get into med school is not an easy task. You will have to do a lot of research and put some effort into finding your best suited med school.
Check out each school’s eligibility criteria and list out the ones you can enter more conveniently. You will have to put some extra effort into fitting in schools out of your range.
Make sure you are 100% ready once you choose your school. Don’t allow yourself to make any mistakes that would lead you to miss out on the opportunity.
They are all different.
Some medical schools follow the AAMC guidelines very closely when considering applicants. The goal is to admit students with the ability and drive to successfully complete the program.
3. Getting into ANY Medical School Is Not That Easy
Once again, perhaps some medical schools are easier to get into than others. However, that doesn’t make the getting accepted process easy. Pre-meds and others are finding it harder and harder to receive those acceptance letters.
Check out these 1999 to 2018 stats:
- The number of med school applicants rose from 38,443 to 52,777
- The number of people accepted into medical school rose from 16,221 to 21,622
In other words, there are many applicants, in contrast to the number of spots offered. That means you need to be on the top of your game to get accepted. Because even the “easiest” medical schools to get into comes with significant competition.
Technically, there is no such thing as “easy to get into medical school, and even overseas schools have admission criteria. So even then, you’ll have to qualify.
